Swedish theme park ride collapses

Officials said around 20 people were seriously hurt in the accident, which happened at the Liseberg theme park. Several people were thrown out of the swinging Rainbow ride in Tuesday evening's accident, police said.

Why? That site is a specific news site, which simply repeats news items with far less editorial content than CoasterBuzz News. It's just that the news collected on that site is limited to news stories about ride accidents. It's not like, say, linking to Mr. Herrera's site...

It really looks like the driveshaft broke. As far as I remember the HUSS Rainbow has two parallel driveshafts which keep the gondola in an upright position. One of the two acts as a redundancy.
Very strange and frightening accident! I think it is the first of its kind.
