CoasterBuzz Podcast #110 posted
Monday, April 28, 2008 8:36 PM ET | contributed by Jeff

Jeff, Pat and Mike review this week's news in the amusement industry.

  • Kings Island construction: What do you think of our lovely footer? What's the deal with Tomb Raider, now The Crypt? Jeff loved the Tomb Raider theme. Gonch doesn't care.
  • SeaWorld Orlando is apparently building a B&M flying coaster. Bummer for height requirements, but given Busch's recent track record, we expect a good ride.
  • PointBuzz has a list of new goodies at Cedar Point. Gonch feels the kids attraction list is pretty huge, and Planet Snoopy is a solid upgrade.
  • Kennywood tax dispute settled, and they'll still pay up. A state bill has been proposed to eliminate the amusement taxes.
  • Disneyland chief outlines the future, including a new park. Perhaps after they get California Adventure right. Mike says he'd put a water park there.
  • Strange communication about people interested in saving Geauga Lake's Big Dipper surfaces, gets ACE indirectly involved when it shouldn't have, and smells like agenda mining.
  • Gonch has been smoke free for three plus months, doing it on the buddy system.
  • Flash Pass system allegedly sending people to the back of the train. It's like a coaster rights controversy or something. Gonch says this premium queue thing isn't going away regardless.
  • What's a good deal?
  • Six Flags Great America wants $25 for you to park up close, and $15 for the rest of the lot. Are you kidding?

$30 to park, are you joking me? That after you've already had to spend a fortune on gas just to drive to the park in the first place.

Thanks for the link to the prices.

Because having it listed under the FAQ makes so much sense.

I guess Six Flags doesn't believe in transparent pricing. Other parks (non-SF) seem to list all of their prices in one place on their websites.

All agreed that SFGAm's parking system this year is complete B.S.

When it comes to the Big Dipper rumor moving to CP? The Norton auction had it listed in the early flyer. Now, if you check out their full detailed brochure, it (Big Dipper) is not listed along with the Beaver Land Mine Ride.

I am not into conspiracy crap or enthusiasses hanging on a string, but this new Norton info does raise some interesting info. CF might have found a home for the Big Dipper.

I don't think the issue was ever the plausibility, but rather the appearance of some conflict with some jerks who aren't getting their way. For now though, the official line is that there is nothing going on.

Much like the official line was "we have every intention of operating Geauga Lake for years to come."

I think the dialogue with the 49ers has the Cedar Fair folks learning how to talk out of both sides of their mouth. And, of course, I understand the need to do that at times.

Okay, Orange County, NY goes back to the days when it wasn't New York, but Nieuw Netherlands. It got it's name from the royal family of the Netherlands, The House of Orange.

If you watch the show (American Chopper) you would notice they have harsh winters that include snow. Orange County California doesn't get snow, I lived there for 33 years and never saw a flake. BTW, it seems a little late for a tie-in like that. Maybe its just me, I used to watch the show a lot, but not anymore. I think its popularity peaked a few seasons ago.
