Kennywood lays off 12 in response from rising costs
Thursday, November 17, 2005 1:53 PM ET | contributed by Neil

Kennywood Entertainment has laid off 12 full-time employees at two of its four amusement parks. The eight layoffs at Kennywood and four at Idlewild cut across the board resulting from restructuring and increased expenses for gasoline, property insurance, health insurance and taxes.

"These are good people who have been here for many years. It has been very difficult," said Mary Lou Rosemeyer, park spokeswoman.

Not something you hear everyday from a corporate entity.
I hope they find work soon...

KPJB: I hope you weren't one of them!

Anyone ever heard a spokeperson claim..."this were all crappy employees that got what they deserved...I hope they never get a job again"?

:-)

No, but more often than not you'll hear companies use terms referring to staying competitive and assets and liabilities rather than actually referring to their employees as people as did Kennywood.

Exactly. We downsized or right-sized and trimmed off numbers as if it was fat from a cut of beef as opposed to people with bills and familes and lives to lead.

And they DEFINITELY won't say anything bad about the ones that suck. The lousy ex-employees ones are always the first to lip off if not sue.

These employees didn't see it coming. I knew a few and they were hard working people that have worked here for many years. Some were close to retirement. It's sad to see...

Thanks John, but I'm not one of them luckily.

It's quite a stretch to say that any of them were close to retirement. If that was the case, I'm sure the park would've just let them retire early.

It's sad when stuff like this has to happen.

So... did anyone notice a similar statement from SFI regarding the closing of Astroworld?
