Steel Curtain Closed for 2024; Will Undergo "Extensive Modification"

Vater:

Son of Beast was brutally rough, not properly constructed (or maintained?) which resulted in an incident that injured riders and ultimately new trains which required removal of the only good part of the ride.

Oh hell no. The loop was fun but, it was only the 2nd best part of that ride. The first drop was absolutely amazing, especially in the front, but breathtaking anywhere on the train really. I rode SOB every visit to KI just for that drop. The helix was garbage and everything after the loop was boring as sin, but that first drop was just chef's kiss perfect. Very happy I got to experience it a bunch before the wrecking ball showed up.

I read somewhere that 99% of people were perfectly fine with it.

I don’t remember the first drop being amazing because my head was quite literally hurting badly toward the bottom of it. The loop was the only reprieve I had from that point on. And my first and only ride was in the front seat.

Ahh gotcha. I don't doubt at all you had a horrible ride, and I am now remembering jackhammering in the first valley being quite an issue for a while. My memory is rosy from better end-of-life rides, most of the hammering was gone once the new trains showed up and that drop was great. Too bad the helix was always a POS.
