Coasters' Choice Award winners announced

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

CoasterBuzz has announced the winners in the 2001 Coasters' Choice Awards. More than 25,000 votes were collected between the ten categories. The results are the ultimate popularity contest in the roller coaster world.

The site features an "awards show" that doesn't have any dancing pop idols, but does have a nice beat you can dance to.

Visit the Coasters' Choice Awards site to view all of the winners.

Nice job on the presentation. I can't believe Son of Beast won best new wood coaster and the Beast won best coaster.

After looking at the results, I wonder what region of the country most of the voters are from :)

Jeff, you have outdone yourself again. That presentation was awesome! Most of the awards weren't too surprising except SOB winning Best New Wood Coaster. Great job!!

Thank you for riding America's Roller Coast
Yeah, I was blown by Sonny winning (I mean, *I* though it was a great coaster and voted accordingly, but I dint think anyone else would). But what I want to know is who is the overdramatic DJ-type doing the voice over ;)

Hhhmmm, I don't have quicktime, and cannot install it on my works pc :-(

But I'm glad my Beast babies have won!

May/June 2001 - 16 parks in 18 days!!!
I knew my dislike for The Beast was unusual, but not that unusual.

"Wait! Can't we discuss this?"
For some reason when I click on the link for the winners, it just takes me back to the homepage. :(

The "overdramatic DJ-type" is what you describe. Some in the Cleveland market may recognize him from voicing spots on the Clear Channel owned stations (that's most of them), or perhaps more recently in the DC market at the same stations.

Good, im glad that CP got park of the year. Im not really suprised about MF. Sob i thought would get best new wooden coaster and now that it has the award, im glad. The beast was no suprise either, to me atleast. Im happy with the awards and who they went to.
Absolutely no surprises. Except the lower than what I thought % that CP won by for Best Park. I figured it would be at least 65% or so. And IOA win for best food. I thought that would go to CP or BGW, but their food is top notch anyway. I'm so glad the Beasts won. I bet SOB would've won Worst New Coaster as well if that was a category. I thought is was best though and I had ridden 4/5. I hope a lot more people can get over to SFNE this year where the "Best Steel Coaster" is still awaiting your ridership. Great job Jeff for the awards. The winners were very deserving and I can't wait to vote and see the turnout again next year(hopefully with surprises).
Great job jeff! The best food surprised me, but lot much else.

p.s raging bull is at six flags GREAT america

KoasterKing alludes to a good point here. Most of the awards were won by CP. I'm guessing that most of the Coasterbuzz members are in the Midwest and didn't get a chance to get to any of the other parks nominated. I have to wonder how different the results would have been if more of the voting public visited SoCal, New England, etc.

Yes, Cedar Point is off the hook.

Jeff, I am shocked. The way you presented the results were tight. Keep it up. You are really good

Cedar Point won so many because it is the best. I'm sure there are people from the coasts who have visited Cedar Point, and may have voted for it because they liked it most. I'm from Chicago, but I voted for CP because it is my favorite park and has my favorite coasters. If you look at my track record, you know I have the background to make an educated choice, as well.
And Jeff, incredible job on the awards! I dunno how you keep rasing the bar like you do on this site, but keep it up!

C'mon! What's with Badnitrus getting the stiff on best site?!?! His site kicks the pants off Screamscape!
I really liked the presentation. At first, I thought it was just going to be a list, but I wasn't expecting anything like that. Wow, that was really cool. Great job Jeff! I was glad to see CP take most of the awards. I was expecting that.
